New Delhi: Veteran actress Waheeda Rahman will be honored with the Dada Saheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for her unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. She has portrayed memorable characters in films like ‘Guide,’ ‘Pyaasa,’ ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam,’ ‘Delhi-6,’ ‘Kagaz Ke Phool,’ among many others. With a career spanning nearly seven decades, she is considered a pillar of Indian cinema.

Central Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur made this announcement on Tuesday. He shared a lengthy note while listing the achievements of the veteran actress and declaring her honor with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year.

Waheeda Rahman’s Films
Waheeda Rahman has been praised by critics for her roles in Hindi films. She has appeared in films like ‘Pyaasa,’ ‘Kagaz Ke Phool,’ ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand,’ ‘Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam,’ ‘Guide,’ ‘Khamoshi,’ and many others. In her career spanning over five decades, she has portrayed her characters beautifully. Her portrayal of a bride in the film ‘Reshma Aur Shera’ earned her a National Film Award.

He further wrote, “Honored with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, Waheeda Rahman has set an example of dedication, strength, and commitment for Indian women who can achieve great heights even at a professional level with their hard work. At a time when the Historic Women Empowerment Bill has been passed by Parliament, she is truly honored with this Lifetime Achievement Award, representing one of the leading women in Indian cinema. She dedicated her life to wellness and worked for the betterment of society after her film career. I congratulate her and humbly express my respect for her rich contributions, which are an integral part of our film history.”
