Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech at the annual ASEAN-India summit, where he emphasized the importance of establishing a rules-based world order in the post-COVID era and strengthening the representation of the Global South. He also highlighted the necessity of maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

India supports the ASEAN outlook on the Indo-Pacific, and Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to this stance during his address to ASEAN leaders. He acknowledged the vital role that ASEAN plays in global development and described it as the epicenter of growth.

Modi expressed his belief that the 21st century belongs to Asia and emphasized the importance of developing a rules-based world order after the COVID-19 pandemic. He also stressed the significance of collective efforts for the welfare of humanity, using the term “Sabka Prayas” to convey the idea of collaborative endeavors.

Despite the global uncertainties, Modi highlighted the consistent progress in mutual cooperation between India and ASEAN. He reaffirmed ASEAN’s central role in India’s Act East policy and noted that the ASEAN-India partnership has entered its fourth decade. Additionally, he emphasized ASEAN’s significant position in India’s Indo-Pacific initiative.
