Elon Musk Takes Legal Action Against ADL Over Accusations of Antisemitism

Elon Musk said, “ADL did good work in the past, but now they’ve become too strict and influenced by the ‘woke’ way of thinking.”

Elon Musk is taking legal action against the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization dedicated to combating antisemitism, for making false accusations of antisemitism against him and X Corp (formerly Twitter).

The tech billionaire also blamed ADL for X’s falling advertising revenue in the US.

“To clear our platform’s reputation from accusations of antisemitism, it seems we have no option but to initiate a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League… quite ironic!” Musk posted late on Monday.

“Our advertising revenue in the US is still down by 60 percent, mainly because advertisers have felt pressured by the ADL (that’s what advertisers are telling us). So, they almost succeeded in severely affecting X/Twitter!” the owner of X added.

These posts emerged as Musk faced allegations of liking posts containing the hashtag #BanTheADL, which gained popularity on X last week.

The ADL reported having had a constructive conversation with X CEO Linda Yaccarino regarding combating hate speech on the platform.

“Ever since the acquisition, the @ADL has been attempting to undermine this platform by wrongly accusing it and me of being anti-Semitic,” Musk stated.

Antisemitism has been a concern on Twitter long before Musk acquired the platform in October of last year for $44 billion. Musk himself has faced allegations of using anti-Semitic tropes and endorsing conspiracy theories by directing his attention towards Jewish billionaire George Soros and engaging with anti-Semitic content on X.

On Sunday, just days after amplifying an anti-Semitic campaign to remove ADL from X, the “free-speech absolutist” Musk suggested conducting a poll among the social media platform’s users to determine whether the civil rights advocacy group should be removed from the platform. Musk remarked, “The ADL has accomplished a great deal of valuable work in past decades, but in recent years, it has become excessively zealous and influenced by an overly politically correct mindset.”
