Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami, Gokulashtami, Krishnasthami, or Srijayanti, is a significant Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, who is revered as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. This auspicious occasion falls on the Ashtami Tithi (eighth day) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) during the Bhadrapad month of the Hindu calendar. In 2023, Janmashtami is observed on September 6 and 7, marking the divine birth of Lord Krishna, a beloved deity known for his wisdom, charm, and profound teachings that continue to inspire millions of devotees worldwide.
