Danushka Gunathilaka: The Sri Lankan cricket team didn’t make it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup held in Australia last year. After their return to Sri Lanka, the star player, Tanushka Gunathilaka, got arrested by the police. The reason was a serious complaint made by a woman from Australia, accusing Dhanushka Gunathilaka of sexual assault. An investigation into this matter began to understand what happened.

The woman from Australia and the Sri Lankan cricketer, Dhanushka Gunathilaka, had initially connected online. They later met at a bar in Australia. Subsequently, a complaint was filed, alleging that Dhanushka Gunathilaka sexually assaulted the woman.

However, in her statement, the woman clarified that they engaged in sexual activity with mutual consent initially. However, later on, without her consent, he continued the act without using protection and subjected her to physical harm. This incident jeopardized Dhanushka Gunathilaka’s cricketing career, and he remained in Australia for 11 months awaiting a verdict.

After this extended period, a judgment was delivered, stating that since the intercourse was continuous, there was no opportunity for him to remove the condom. Consequently, Dhanushka Gunathilaka has been acquitted of all charges. This outcome marks a significant development in the case and its impact on his career.

Following the court’s decision, Dhanushka Gunathilaka, emerging from the courtroom, expressed the immense challenges he faced during the past 11 months, stating it was the most trying period of his life. With a sense of relief, he felt that life was returning to normalcy.

He expressed his eagerness to return to Sri Lanka and resume training for international cricket. His fellow Sri Lankan players, including the team captain Shanaka, shared their joy and offered their support for his comeback.
